Understanding Body Mass Index (BMI)
What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple measurement using your height and weight to work out if your weight is healthy. The BMI calculation divides an adult's weight in kilograms by their height in metres squared. For example, A BMI of 25 means 25kg/m².

For most adults, an ideal BMI is in the 18.5 to 24.9 range. The ranges are:
- Below 18.5 – Underweight
- 18.5 to 24.9 – Healthy weight
- 25 to 29.9 – Overweight
- 30 or greater – Obese

- It may not be suitable for children, pregnant women, or certain ethnic groups
Why BMI is Important
Maintaining a healthy BMI is important because it can help reduce your risk of various health conditions, including:
- Heart disease and high blood pressure
